5-Day Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Amboseli NP Mid-Range Safari

Our adventure begins with a 7:30 a.m. pickup from your hotel or the airport. Your African Habitat Kenya Safaris driver/guide, a seasoned host, escort, and wildlife expert, will be with you for the next six days, sharing secrets about the land and explaining the world of animals you will encounter.

 Proceed to the Masai Mara game reserve, Kenya's and Africa's finest wildlife reserve. The drive to the Mara takes you through Kenya's rural settings, which contrast dramatically as you progress towards the Great Rift Valley escarpment.

Most of the drive will be on the floor of the Great Rift Valley and through Masai country. In the afternoon, you will explore the Masai Mara on your first game-viewing drive of the safari.

Your dinner and overnight will be at Jambo Mara Lodge.

We'll arrive at the Mara with plenty of time for game drives today. This vast reserve supports an intense concentration of wildlife.

You'll see plenty of predators and grazers playing out their life cycles on a great savannah dotted with distinctive acacia trees.

If you should be at the park during the great migration (July – October), prepare to take in the most incredible display of advancing animals – wildebeests and zebra – on the planet. The wildlife arrives in its yearly cycle, and their numbers are breathtaking.

At the point of this crossing, we'll visit the Mara River, where crocodiles await and immense hippos forage. We'll also track other wildlife over the vast plains of the park—lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, rhino, and gazelle.

We offer several optional excursions to add value and memories to your safari adventure. Speak to your guide about taking a hot-air balloon safari, a unique experience that allows you to view the wildlife from a different perspective.

You've never experienced anything like rising with the dawn over the African countryside to the sight of an endless procession of marching wildebeests. Our next destination is Lake Nakuru, but we'll make stops along the way to enjoy some of the most scenic spots, stretch our legs, and savor the beauty of the surroundings.

Due to progressive natural factors, such as changes in water levels and increasing human activity, the flamingo numbers have decreased, but the park remains stunning—one of Kenya's finest. Great rocky escarpments tower over acacia forest, waterfalls, wooded hills, and euphorbia trees dot the lake.

The small number of flamingos is accompanied by other birdlife—pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks, herons, and eagles.

The scene here is bountiful, busy, and full of color.

But that's only the beginning of what this special park offers. Wildlife viewing is easy and accessible.

Lake Nakuru is home to some endangered but beautiful species. You'll spot rare Rothschild's Giraffe and white rhino along the lakeshore.

The rhino sanctuary here holds one of Kenya's largest herds of endangered black and white rhinos. We'll spend the night here, and you can look forward to an early morning game drive and bird watching.

Early morning exit game viewing drives at Lake Nakuru as you exit the park. A long and easy drive to the Amboseli National Park.

Weather permitting, we may even see views of Mt. Kilimanjaro's peak. On the way to Amboseli, we'll pass the towering escarpments of the Rift Valley and make stops to admire these imposing formations. Arriving at Amboseli in the afternoon in good time for lunch, we'll be followed by a game drive, during which we'll encounter many herds of large tusked elephants marching through the park, returning from their watering holes.

You'll likely see the great mass of Mount Kilimanjaro rising to the south. This is also a good time of day for the cloud cover to disperse, revealing the mountain's famous snow-capped peak.

We'll get up early for one last game drive. In addition to the ever-present elephants, look for zebra, buffalo, and gazelle.

This is our last day in Amboseli National Park. We will enjoy an early short morning game drive in search of the big games once more, probably to say pick some wilderness greetings back home:)

The predators are busy hunting this early morning, and you may get lucky to catch them in action. The Amboseli Wildlife includes Leopard, Cheetah, Wild dogs, Buffalo, Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Lion, Crocodile, Mongoose, Hyrax, Dik-dik, Lesser Kudu, and Nocturnal Porcupine.

The park is a photographer's paradise, blessed with a prolific birdlife of over 600 species, especially in the Lakes and Swampy areas.

Get back to the hotel for a full breakfast. Later, depart Amboseli for Nairobi, having lunch en route. Arrive in the evening for your scheduled flight back home.
